12 hrs general strike affect normal life in Manipur


Imphal, Sep 20: As part of the protest against diesel price hike, cap on subsidized LPG cylinders and FDI in multi-brand retail and aviation, opposition NDA and Left parties have concluded their protested in nation-wide peacefully.

In Manipur also the state left parties, the All India Forwards Block (AIFB), Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India-Maxist (CPI-M), Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S), Janata Dal United (JDU), Manipur People’s Party (MPP), National People’s party (NPP), RSP and coordinating bodies of Trade Union also joint the protest of 12 hours general strike in Manipur by organizing a mass rally in the heart of the Imphal city, on Thursday.

During the general strike, in the heart of Imphal city shop and retailer were closed along with the transportations off the road. The state government offices were found open with a very low percentage of the staff.

Although the 12 hours general strike was in full swing, some educational institutes were open for the day due to examination.

Dr. M Nara state secretary of the CPI told reporters in the side line of the rally that the left parties strongly oppose the UPA-II government against the continues price hike of diesel as well FDI and LPG cylinder issue, so various left parties came out today to protest against the act of the ruling government.
The Manipur left parties also demanded the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh resignation in the interest of the general public added Dr Nara.

In the meantime the CPM of northeast region has also launched a massive campaign in favour of today general strike for the last two days under the banner “Centre has surrendered to the US by allowing investment in all vital sectors that would make 50 Lakhs of Indian families jobless”, said CPM secretary Bijan Dhar.

In Assam, over three lakhs small traders protest against the center's decision to allow 51 percent FDI in multi-brand retail, by observing a dawn to dusk bandh.
