Thousands of students pay Homage to Martyrs

Imphal, Aug 27: By commemorating the four Martyrs students of the Manipur who lay down their life in protest against the food scarcity on 27th August, 1965, the All Manipur Student Union (AMSU), organized and observed the day as 47th Hunger Machers Day by paying homage on Monday.
The observation was held at Pishum Chingamacha located at Singjamei, Imphal west, by paying floral tribute to the Martyrs memorial stone and two minute silent observed in respect of the martyrs.
The four martyrs who scarify there life in Hunger Marcher protest in 1965, are namely Waikhom Nimai, Oinam Nabakumar, Nongmeikapam Pramodini, and Laishram Chaohal.
After paying homage to the four martyrs at Pishum Chinga macha, a mass procession rally was carried out from the memorial stone to DM-college campus Imphal. And later a public meeting was held where intellectual and scholars of Manipur call back the history of the state.
In the meantime as part of observation today all schools college and other educational institute, including entertainment centre were closed down.
