Assembly resolution on ILP system yet to furnish : Ibobi
Imphal, July 20: Manipur chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh Thursday denied media reports on Centre’s rejection to the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Manipur, saying that the resolution passed by the last session of state Assembly was yet to be furnished at the Centre.
He was making a categorical clarification regarding the reports about Centre’s rejection to the state’s proposal for extension of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulations, 1873 in the state of Manipur, in a brief interaction with media person at state Assembly complex where he turned up to cast vote for the election of next President of the country.
Chief Minister, however, asserted that before the state Assembly adopted the resolution regarding the implementation of the system, union home ministry had already informed state government that the extension of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulations, 1873 was not a “state subject”.
As the extension of the regulation to the state was not an easy thing, he said, state government will not furnish the resolution in a hurry.
After a thorough discussion, the house adopted a resolution to appraise Central government to extend the regulation which was in enforce in some northeastern states and in Manipur too.
Media reproduced a report of New Delhi based Vision Communications in which it was reported that the union ministry of home affairs has rejected the demand for extension of provision of ILP system in Manipur under Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulations, 1873.
“The Centre, instead, asked Ibobi government to defuse the crisis and keep strict vigil on the non-Manipuri people who were engaged in different low paid trades like hair cutting, masonry besides the job of daily wage labourer.”
Reacting to the report, joint committee on ILP system, spearheading the agitations demanding the implementation of the system and has demanded a clarification from state government.
