Senapati police rescue 2 women
IMPHAL, June 17: Senapati District Police rescued the two abducted women identified as Veikhe, 48 wife of Daya Singh and Veine, 35 wife of Satlam today at 2:30 pm from Thangbuh village under Saparmeina PS.
According to a release of the Senapati SP, on June 14, at about 7 pm, the two women were abducted by around four to five armed men from their parental house at Thanamba village under Kangpokpi PS and taken to an unknown location.
A FIR case was registered by Kangpokpi PS in this connection, it added.
A co-ordinated Monitoring and intelligence gathering was initiated by Senapati District Police assisted by Imphal West District Police and acting on gathered information, today at 1:30 pm, a cordon and search operation was launched at Thangbuh village by teams of Kangpokpi and Saparmeina police led by Addl. SP-Kangpokpi Md Jackiruddin under overall supervision of Senapati SP Pushpanjali, it added.
During the operation, the two abducted women were rescued from a house, the release said.
Subsequently, on the same day at around 3.40 p.m. the accused Yumnam Soni Kumar, 46 son of Y Joykumar of Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai, Imphal West, Sylvia Kom, 41 wife of Y Joykumar and Khwairakpam Sanatomba Singh, 40 alias Manichandra alias Tomba son of late Kh Angangyaima Singh of Sekmai Bazar Imphal West were arrested from Sekmai by a team of CDO, Imphal West led by Addl SP N Herojit Meitei.
The arrested accused persons also engaged members of a particular UG group in the abduction, the release said while adding that effort to nab the other accused persons is on.
The main motive behind the crime was regarding land matter, it further claimed.
During the whole operation, the safety of the abducted women was given the paramount importance, the Senapati SP release concluded.
