Dental college in the offing
IMPHAL, June 11: RIMS Director prof S Sekharjit today convened a press conference at his office regarding the opening of the Manipur Dental College inside the RIMS campus and a new OPD building.
The director, Prof S Sekharjit briefing media persons said the proposed dental college inside the hospital campus is likely to be inaugurated later this year, while the still under construction, four storied OPD building inside the hospital campus could be inaugurated after 20 months from now.
Elaborating on the construction of the OPD building, the Director said 70 percent construction has been completed. The building has been constructed under the funding of the Ministry of Health, Government of India.
The four storeyed OPD building will have disabled friendly stairs and well-spaced waiting rooms to accommodate more patients, he said.
A major problem of the hospital is the doubling of PG student intake in its medical college as instructed by the central government.
He said due to limited space and infrastructure in the present hostel, the college authorities are finding it hard to incorporate the additional 75 students. The present intake of the college is 75.
In order to meet the government instruction, the authorities have taken the construction of separate hostels to accommodate the students of PG medical, Nursing institute, proposed dental college at a war footing, he said.
The authorities will further turn their concern towards accelerating the completion of the Dental College.
Briefing media persons, he said, there are 255 faculty member 474 staff nurses and 116 nursing sisters and other non-teaching staffs are at present employed in the hospital to attend to the general public.
In order to put a check on the workings and attendance of the staffs, the authorities have installed bio-metrics and file trackers in the hospital.
The hospital has also installed CCTVs to put a check on the entry of anti-social elements into the hospital.
