Children’s Cultural Meet on “Stop Crime against Children, Ensure a Secured Environment to Every Child” held
IMPHAL, June 9: The 3rd State Level Children’s Cultural Meet 2012 under the theme “Stop Crime against Children, Ensure a Secured Environment to Every Child” was held at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound here on Saturday.
The cultural meet was organized by Manipur Alliance for Child Rights (MACR) under the sponsorship of Cry Child Rights and You, Kolkata.
Director of Education (S) W Rajen and Director of Social Welfare Department G Satyabati attended as chief guest and president at the meet.
Addressing the meet Director W Rajen said, “Children are the pillars of our future and that we should keep in mind that they are the most precious property of the society. They should be treated with love and affection all the time”.
Director Satyabati said, “Children are the manifestation of God and they are just like a ‘white paper’. Crimes against children in the state cannot be stopped immediately by the Social Welfare Department only but these should be encountered with a joint effort of different civil societies, parents and the general public.”
She also said the state Social Welfare Department and the Education (S) have extended various helps to the children and they would be helped in future also.
Informing that the Social Welfare department was able to rescue about 200 children were from child traffickers in 2010-11, the Director of Social Welfare Department appealed to all concerned not to abandon children but to hand them over to the department. She said there are six abandon centres and we want to keep the children at the centres.
The formation of Child Right Commission Act is now under process and that it will be completed very soon, she assured.
Gifts were presented to many children from different parts of the state during the meet and numerous children also showcased cultural programme.
