Cabinet removes pedestrian rules

IMPHAL, June 12: From Wednesday onwards, vehicles will be allowed inside the bazaar without a time limit. The state cabinet has reviewed the traffic regulation which prohibited vehicular movement along Paona and Thangal Bazar.

A cabinet meeting convened on February 14 had imposed a pedestrian only zone along both commercial areas banning vehicles from 10 am till 4 pm.

The new traffic rules will however impose a parking fee of Rs 10 per hour and vehicles will be only allowed to park at one side of the road.

A senior minister briefed that the new regulations is aimed to address the grievances incurred by the public.

The cabinet also resolved to depute former Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh as advisor on power to the Chief Minister.

The state government will also award AISSCE topper Md Ismat Rs 5 lacs and 10 lacs to his school.

New Municipal bylaws have also been approved which include keeping of basements for Bazar residents, sticker for private vehicles for the same and taxes to be collected annually, limiting the spacing of buildings etc.
