BJP readies itself for ‘Jail Bharo’
IMPHAL, June 7: The Manipur Unit of the BJP today announced that the state unit is ready to participate in the nation-wide ‘Jail Bharo’ demonstration on June 22 against price rise of essential commodities spearheaded by the national party.
Speaking to IFP, Manipur State Unit, BJP president Sh Shantikumar Sharma said that the party is prepared for the agitation against price rice on June 22.
He further told IFP that the resolution to take up the agitation was taken during a national executive meeting of the party recently. As in other states, the state unit of the party will be organizing district level agitations preceding the May 22 ‘Jail Bharo’ agitation.
Regarding the strengthening of the party in the state, he said the party has already initiated a process to enrol new members into the fold of the party.
He added that the party leaders have already selected BJP candidate of Tengnoupal constituency in the last state general election, Yanglet Haokip as the state enrolment in charge.
The party will further select more office bearers to assist Yanglet Haokip in the task, he said.
Meanwhile, BJP North East Zonal Secretary Chandrasekhar Rao has landed today at Imphal on a two day visit and will be conducting a press conference before leaving Imphal tomorrow, he said.
The BJP central leaders have also instructed the state unit to finish the enrolment of the new party members by July.
He said the party will further prepare for the party’s presidential election after the enrolment of the new members and added the party will be preparing to conduct the presidential election before December 2012, when the term of the present president ends.
When asked if the party has received any application from known politicians of the state to join the party, he replied that there has been no such official intimidation.
