Annual pension for physically challenged
IMPHAL, June 16: The International Handicapped Welfare Mission, head office Khumbong today organized a distribution of annual pension of 202 physically challenged at Korauhanba Sanglen, Moidangpokpi, Imphal West.
The function was attended by PHED & Labour Minister I Hemochandra Singh, Lok Sabha MP Dr T Meinya, Konthoujam MLA K Sarat Singh and Joint Director, Social Welfare department K Sanajaoba as chief guest, president and guests of honour.
Pradhan of Moidangpok gram panchayat Thokchom Gambhir Meitei donated a land measuring 0.625 acres at Khumbong along the NH 37, for the construction of the office of International handicapped Welfare Mission.
Speaking as the chief guest, Minister Hemochandra lauded the pradhan for his donation and urged the organization to run with sincerity and dedication and continue working for the welfare of the physically challenged persons.
He assured the function that the government will take up the issue of those involved in helping the physically challenged persons.
He continued that the cabinet will take up the issue at the earliest possible.
Physically challenged persons can now accomplish feats which are even hard for a normal person and at such a juncture it would be wrong to discriminate a person on his physical outlook.
Continuing on the issues taken up by the International Handicapped Welfare Mission regarding the welfare of the physically challenged individuals in the past 17 years, the Minister said that people should respect the organization for its work and encourage it further to continue with the good work.
Meanwhile MLA K Sarat said, people should consider the physically challenged persons as same as others.
He continued that they too are living beings with emotions and can feel like everyone and we should not discriminate against them.
Meanwhile, the INHAWEN secretary said in his key-note address that the organisation has not taken any help from the state government regarding the distribution of pension.
He continued that we should help one another.
Padmashree L Nabakishore said that several Ministers and MLAs had assured help and pension for the physically challenged persons before the election; however they seem to have forgotten their assurances and promises after the election, which is unfortunate.
Such false promises of the elected representatives will only hamper the welfare programmes of the physically challenged persons, he added.
