World disablity day observed at jiribam

JIRIBAM, December 3: The World Disability Day was observed today at Jiribam, organised by Additional Deputy Project Office, Jiribam in collaboration with Achievement of Rising Maiden (ARM) at the premises of Institute for Children with Disabilities, Jiribam.

The theme of observation was “Break, barrier, Open doors for an inclusive society for all”.

The Institute for children with Disabilities (ICD) has been observing the day since the past six years.

During the observation today presents were distributed to 38 disabled children along with four senior citizen of Jiribam.

In a day long programme, the dias of the function was shared by Th Ketuki  Devi, additional deputy project officer, jiribam; S Jadhob Singh president Parents Association of ICA, Jiribam; Ch Sunamani Singh deputy inspector, Jiribam; BK Saikia  2IC 22 Assam Rifles; G.R Sharma general manager Power Grid, Jiribam and H Bina Devi councillor ward no 9, Jiribam.

Speaking at the occasion Ch.Sunamani Singh said that if we want to make our society a better one than we need to look at one another equally regardless of whether one is an abled or disabled person.

BK Saikia said that delivering some speech  on the World Dsabilities Day will not achieved the aims and objectives until and unless people don’t work with heart and soul.

Th Ketuki Devi said that today’s programmes’main aim is to make people aware about the World Disabilities Day.  

Our CCpur correspondent adds: The district level World Disabled Day was observed at Lamka, CCpur today.

The program started at 11 am at Synod Hall, IB road, Lamka and was attended by the Rev Domenic Luman, the Archbishop of Imphal as the chief guest.

The World Disabled Day message was delivered by Pauzagin Tonsing, secretary CDDU and co-coordinator of Center for Community Initiative (CCI).

DK Manga, supervisor of CDDU, distributed certificates to the disableds during the function.

Speaking on the occasion, DSWO A Umarani said that as per the 2001 census, Manipur had 28,376 disableds out of which 16,429 were provided with disabled certificate.

She further said that Churachandpur district had 6429 disabled in all, out of which 861 were issued disability certificates.

The DSWO further continued that for those who are yet to get their certificates can get it from JNIMS at Imphal with recommendation and relevant documents.

On the occasion the DSWO also highlight her department’s initiative/action including provision of financial help, unemployed allowance, scholarship etc to the disabled in the district.
