Police recover stolen vehicles, nab woman

IMPHAL, November 30: A team of Imphal Police Station arrested a woman yesterday evening from her rented house at Soibam Leikai Ahongei Leirak under Porompat Police Station and recovered three two-wheeler vehicles which were stolen from various parts of Imphal. The woman was paraded before media persons at the station but police said the main accused is still at large.

Briefing media persons Inspector Shantikumar, officer-in-charge of Imphal Police Station said that after a report was filed by the owner about a missing Dio scooter from the premises of DM College of Arts on August 13, 2013, a team of Imphal police under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Imphal West launched an investigation.

The owner further gave information that a mobile phone handset along with a Sim card was inside the tool box of the vehicle. By tracing the calls made from the lost mobile phone police were able to zoom in on the exact location of the caller, he said.

The phone was traced to Soibam Leikai area of Imphal East District and a police team rushed to the locality and recovered the stolen Dio scooter along with a Bajaj Pulsar bike and a Honda Activa from the female occupant of rented house at Soibam Leikai Ahongei Leirak. She was identified as Laitonjam Shila Devi, 28, wife of Suraj Singh, originally from Leimakhong Laitonjam Leikai. The house belongs to Athokpam Sunil of Soibam Leikai.  

Shila was arrested there itself in the evening yesterday by the Police following the recovery of the three stolen vehicles. The police officer said the main accused in the case is still at large and police is trying to make the arrest.

He further appealed to owners of the vehicles to double lock their vehicles when they park their vehicles in crowded places and bazaar area and also appealed to the owner of the recovered vehicles to collect their vehicles from the Imphal Police Station after giving sufficient proof.
