Mob storms RIMS Gynae ward following ‘post delivery death’

IMPHAL December 15: People including family members of a 25-year-old woman who died yesterday at RIMS hospital stormed the Gynae Ward today insisting that she died from injuries inflicted by negligent doctors while delivering a baby there on December 5 last.

A family member told media persons at the scene that the deceased Irengbam Sandhyarani, wife of I Nanao of Iroishemba Maning Leikai was admitted to the hospital on December 5 in connection with a delivery case. On the same day, she gave birth to a baby girl through a caesarian operation.

Sandhyarani was discharged by the doctors of the RIMS hospital on December 9 but after staying two days at her home she began complaining of pain in her stomach. Hence, she was readmitted to RIMS hospital for treatment on December 11.

An operation was conducted yesterday to alleviate her condition but doctors declared her dead at around 2 pm from multiple organ failure, he said

After that the angry locals of the deceased stormed the RIMS Gynae ward contending that the woman suffered irreparable damages to her organs during the operation for delivering her baby and demanded the handing over of the lady doctor for recklessness in performing the operation.

A complaint has been lodged at Lamphel Police Station regarding the case.
