Government is closely monitoring implementation of Power Projects to prevent delays, says Power Minister

New Delhi, December 12: The Government is closely monitoring the power projects under construction to avoid delays. Central Electricity Authority (CEA) is performing the duties of monitoring of the power projects in pursuance of 73 (f) of Electricity Act, 2003. In addition, a Power Project Monitoring Panel (PPMP) has been set up by the Ministry of Power to independently follow up and monitor the progress of the hydro/thermal projects and regular reviews are held by Minister of State (I/C) for Power and Secretary (Power).

This information was given by Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of State (I/C) of Power in the Lok Sabha today.

There are delays in execution/construction of power plants in the country due to various reasons such as delay in receiving various inputs/clearances for the project, delay in supply of equipments/materials, shortage of manpower, contractual disputes, law and order problems etc. In addition, hydro power plants are also delayed due to change in design, natural calamities, geological surprises, difficult terrain, poor accessibility and rehabilitation & resettlement problems.
