Cabinet condoles the passing away of Union Minister Shri Sis Ram Ola

New Delhi, December 16: The Cabinet met today to condole the passing away of Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Sis Ram Ola.

Sis Ram Ola will be accorded a State funeral at Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan tomorrow (December 16th, 2013).

The National Flag will be flown at half-mast in Delhi and the Capitals of the States/Union Territories of India on December 15th, 2013, and on the day of the funeral at the place where the funeral takes place.

The Cabinet passed the following condolence resolution:

“The Cabinet has learnt with profound sorrow about the passing away of Shri Sis Ram Ola, Union Cabinet Minister, on 15th December, 2013 at 3.30 AM in a hospital at Gurgaon, Haryana.

Shri Sis Ram Ola was born on 30th July, 1927 at village Ardawata, in the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan. He was an agriculturist and a great political and social worker who devoted his entire life for upliftment of the masses.

Sis Ram Ola was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Rajasthan for the first time in the year 1957 and was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Rajasthan for eight terms. He rendered distinguished service as a Cabinet Minister in the Government of Rajasthan for ten years and held important portfolios of the Ministries/Departments of Panchayati Raj, Rural Development, Forest and Environment, Public Health Engineering, Irrigation, Transport, Cooperatives, Excise, Underground Water and Soldiers’ Welfare Department.

Sis Ram Ola was elected to the Lok Sabha in the year 1996 from Jhunjhunu and was continuously re-elected to the 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th Lok Sabha from the same constituency. He rendered distinguished service in the Union Council of Ministers and held important portfolios as Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Chemicals and Fertilizers (1996-97), Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Water Resources (1997-98), Minister of Labour and Employment (May 2004 to November 2004), Minister of Mines (November 2004 to May 2009) and Minister of Labour and Employment from June 17, 2013 till the date of demise.

Keeping in view his unmatched contribution in the field of social service and service to the masses, Shri Sis Ram Ola was conferred the Padma Shri in 1968. He was also honoured with the Indira Gandhi Balika Niketan Award for his efforts to promote education amongst girls in the rural areas of Rajasthan.
