Shija Blood Bank and Transfusion Services becomes first NAB certified blood bank in NE
Imphal, November 2: Shija Blood Bank and Transfusion Services located at Shija Hospitals Complex, Langol is the first NABH (National Accreditation Board of Hospitals and Healthcare Service Providers) accredited Blood Bank in North East India. The Blood Bank has been granted the accreditation no. BB-2013-0057, effective from 25th October 2013. The accreditation has been granted for meeting the required quality standard set by the authorities of NABH.
Shija Blood Bank and Transfusion Services is a PPP Model Blood Bank, funded by North Eastern Council, Shillong and Planning Department, Government of Manipur. The management is undertaken by Shija Healthcare and Research Institute.
A Press Conference in this regard was held at Shija Hospitals Auditorium where Shri Phungzathang Tonsing, Health Minister, Govt. of Manipur along with Dr. Kh Palin, Managing Director, Shija Hospitals briefed the media about the achievement and the facilities of Shija Blood Bank and Transfusion Services.
During the media briefing, Dr Kh Palin announced the accreditation of Blood Bank by NABH for meeting the highest standard in delivery of its services. He further mentioned about the availability of Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT), which is first of its kind in Eastern India. NAAT is today the most advanced technology worldwide, which can detect HIV, Hepatitis B & C Virus in 9 days time. Whereas with the conventional Elisa method the window period is Three weeks to Six months depending on the Virus. Post exposure till detection is known as window period.
He also stressed that Manipur with its vision to be the Healthcare Hub of South East Asia, the certification and the adoption of the most advanced screening technology is important. He appealed to the Health Department, Government of Manipur to sponsor NAAT screening for the patients needing Blood Transfusion.
Shri Phungzathang Tonsing, Hon’ble Minister- Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Manipur appreciated the sincere effort of management of the hospital to bring in quality healthcare to the state. He mentioned that Shija Blood Bank and Transfusion Services is the 57th Blood Bank to be awarded the NABH Accreditation. He took serious note of the incidence of transfusion transmitted HIV and Hepatitis B & C infection, and assured that he will take up the proposal of making NAAT mandatory in the State with the Government.
