People’s dialogue resolves mass agitation on border issue

IMPHAL, November 19: The prolonged negligence of the border pillars on Manipur sector of the Indo-Myanmar border both by the govt and the people of the state has resulted in losing of the boundary pillars and territory, said retired Lt Colonel RK Rajendra, president of the International Meitei Forum and former member of Manipur State Human Rights Commission.

The above statement was today made during the inaugural function of the Manipur People’s Dialogue organized by Manipur People’s Party (MPP) at Manipur Press Club.

He had added that the neglected Manipur sector of the international border for a long time is the main cause for the present boundary dispute.

Rajendra further stated that the people of Manipur can keep the territory of Manipur intact whereas the homeland demand within Manipur should not be tolerated.

N Sovakiran, president, MPP and H Ibotombi Khuman, advisor, UCM also attended the function.

The dialogue resolved to launch a mass campaign on the border fencing issue.

Participating in the dialogue, N Rajendra, president, Information Centre for Hill Area Manipur (ICHAM) strongly urged for unity amongst all political parties and civil society organizations in the state irrespective of their political affiliation.

Setting a dateline for agitation, Rajendra announced that a more severe agitation will be started after December 10, further urging other civil society organizations to join the stir.

During the function, Kh Mani made a legal opinion on the fencing issue saying that the territory of the country cannot be ceded to any country without approval of India Parliament, adding that the territory of Manipur or the country is ceded to Myanmar or other country, then the act is considered to be a treason according to the Article 1 & 3 of the India Constitution.

Th Inaocha, secretary of the Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress mentioned that the four MPs of the party will visit Manipur on November 25 to take stock of the situation here on this much talked border issue, adding that the MPs will alert the nation in the coming Parliament session which will be started from December 5.

He further pledged that Manipur’s boundary will be allowed to cede to any country. Representatives of social organizations, senior citizens for society and various political parties also took part in the public dialogue.
