JIRIBAM, November 16: Student bodies of Jiribam have resumed their suspended stir over the government’s failure to look into their slew of demands regarding lack of infrastructures and transfer policy of teachers in Jiribam sub-division.

A Tata truck involved in construction work of railway line was damaged by stir supporters at Leinangpokpi today late in the morning.

The four student body units of the district - AMSU District Committee, MSF Special Branch Jiribam, DESAM Local Council and KSA Jiribam Unit had imposed an indefinite total blockade along the National Highway 37 since October 23 midnight, as part of their series of agitation; however, the student bodies had called off their agitations on October 25 following an MoU signed with government officials in the presence of the state Education minister.

The student bodies had taken decision to resume the agitation after the government failed to translate into action its assurance to look into the demands of the students by November 12.

On the first day, the total blockade along the highway was resumed today, agitation supporters damaged a Tata truck bearing regd number AS 01 BC 3377 involved in the railway line construction.

The incident occurred around 11:30am today at Leinangpokpi when the vehicle was coming towards Jiribam from Imphal side.

Following the resumption of the bandh, all vehicles going towards Imphal, Nungba and Tamenglong from Jiribam side stopped from plying along the highway.

The bandh also affected schools in the sub-division.

The four student bodies based in Jiribam had started their series of agitation with wearing of black badges and continued with economic blockade along the Imphal-Jiribam highway and the total blockade.

It may be mentioned that the student representatives had met with the Education minister at his office chamber regarding the demands. Following assurances from the state Education minister on their assurances during the meeting, the representatives of the student bodies had signed a seven point MoU with Education director, H Deleep Singh, deputy secretary H Mathang and additional director Ranjan Yumnam in front of the state Education minister on October 25 at the minister’s office chamber.
