Vice President Visits Purana Qila Museum

New Delhi, February 23, 2013: The Vice President of India, M. Hamid Ansari visited the Purana Qila and the Archaeological Museum & the Qila-i-Khuna Mosque within its premise here today.
He was briefed by Daljit Singh, Superitending Archaeologist (Museum) about the various ancient and historical monuments in the Purana Qila viz Sher Mandal, Hamam, Baoli or step well, Bada Darwaza, Qila-i-Khuna mosque and the ways of their preservation by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Shri Ansari took keen interest in these various historical monuments, their fine arts and the excavation sites within the Purana Qila.
Purana Qila or Old Fort is one of the oldest monuments in Delhi. It occupies the ancient mound which conceals perhaps the ruins of the city of Indraprastha of Mahabharat story. Sher Shah Suri demolished the city of Dinpanah built by Humayun and on the same site raised this citadel.
