Presidency College Motbung celebrates 40th Foundation Day
KANGPOKPI,
February 23, 2013: Presidency College Motbung today celebrated its 40th
Foundation day at its Jubilee Hall, Motbung.
The celebration
function was organized by The Students’ Union Presidency College, Motbung.
Ngamthang
Haokip, Minister IFCD/Printing & Stationery, Govt.of Manipur, Shri. Kh.
Divendra Singh, MLA 16-Sekmai AC and Smt. Dr. T. Gangte, Principal Presidency
College Motbung attended the celebration function as Chief Guest, Guest of
Honour and Functional President respectively.
Representatives
of Motbung Village Authority, KSO-SH, TSA-SH and some renowned Kuki artiste
also attended the function.
Addressing a
welcome note, Shri. Haopu, Asst.Professor of the College mentioned that the
current Manipur Assembly Secretariat Speaker Shri. Th.Lokeshore Singh and his
wife Smt. Nivedeta, Under Secretary, Manipur Secretariat is the product of the
College. They are History honour during their College time.
Ngamthang
Haokip, Minister IFCD/Printing & Stationery, Govt.of Manipur while speaking
on the sideline of the celebration said that, Presidency College was
established particularly for all communities in Sadar Hills with lots of
difficulties and hardships. I am very much delighted that today the College
could celebrate 40 years of its existence. In this special occasion I would
like to appeal to the Students’ Union to initiate effective steps for better
improve and development of the College. I ask the Students’ Union to look after
the attendance of both the students as well as the teaching staffs for bringing
quality education.
The Minister also
said that, most of students and their parents assume the College just for
passing graduation; this must be stop at any cost by the Students’ Union and
the teaching staffs.
The Students’
Union also should look after any sanctioned scheme or amount for the College
development. They should check whether the scheme or the amount sanctioned by
the government meant for the College is utilized accordingly and
satisfactorily, added the Minister.
The
IFCD/Printing and Stationery Minister assured the Students’ Union to fulfill
their demands made in the memorandum submitted to him after concerning with the
concern Minister.
Mentioned may
be made that, The Students’ Union urges the Minister to constructs 10 separate
toilet each for both boys and girls. They also ask the Minister to provide 3rd
and 6th Semester text book. The Students’ Union also reminds the previous
memorandum submitted to the Minister for construction of new classroom for the
student community in the College.
While speaking
at the celebration occasion, Kh. Devendra Singh, MLA 16-Sekmai AC
expresses his heartfelt gratitude to the College students, teaching and
non-teaching staffs in celebrating 40th Foundation Day of the
College.
There are many
good students, well-known individual in national and international level that
the College produced during this 40 years. I am really surprise to learn to
that two of the students were also awarded in this auspicious occasion for
bringing laurels to the College in
National and International in the field of Sports, added the MLA.
The MLA also
assured to donate 2 computers set as per the Students’ Union request made in
the memorandum submitted to him.
While observing
the College the MLA felt unhappy to find that the College got only 2 toilets
which not sufficient enough for the students. He was also unhappy to find that
the classroom which was constructed when the College was established remain
unchanged till today and its deteriorating and it will be unusable within 1/2
years. In this regard, the MLA assure that, along with the IFCD/Printing and
Stationery Minister, they will put up the matter to the concern Minister and
help in any possibility at the earliest in the interest of the student
communities of the College.
Smt. Dr.
T.Gangte, Principal of the College said while speaking at the function that,
Presidency College Motbung is the only government college in Sadar Hills where
all communities belonging to Kuki, Nagas, Nepalese and Meeteis come together
and study.
While
elaborating the College objectives Dr. Gangte said that the College teaching
faculties do their best to show the students the rapid political and
technological changes around the world with post new challenges and at the same
time to generate new opportunity for the next generation and do the best for
the students to prepared more dynamic and unpredictable future and highly
competitive.
Dr. T. Gangte
further said that, in spite of lacks of infrastructure, the faculties of this
College are no less than other government College in the State. We do our best
to bring good students in spite of people from Imphal areas think that this
College could never produce good students, added Dr.Gangte.
J.K. Biswas,
Associate Professor while briefing the history of the College said that, Shri.
Henkholen Sitlhou with the help of Shri.Seikholam and Shri.Lunneh, chief of
Motbung Village, Shri. Letpao, Shri. Thongkhochon and some intellectual of the
areas have started the foundation of establishing the College in the year 1970
particularly for the communities residing in Sadar Hills for higher education.
They took three years to set up the College. After rounds and rounds of talks ultimately
the College was established officially in the year 1973. Since there is no
university at that time, the College was affiliated to Gauhati University.
After Manipur University came into existence, the affiliation was transferred
to Manipur University and the Govt. of Manipur took the College in the last
part of the year 1978.
The College is
marching ahead with much difficulties but produced uncountable good students
and officers in different field today. Many well known bank officers, military
officer, civil service officer and the some of the present lecturers,
professors of the College are the product of this College, added Biswas.
The Students’
Union awarded B.A. 5th Semester student Gurumayum Sonia who got Bronze Medal in Inter
College Fencing Championship 2013 at Punjab, Kh.Sonia (Gold Medalist) in
International Fencing Championships 2012 at Bangkok, Thailand, Miss Lungmonkim
who was crowned Miss Kut 2011 and Miss M.Gracy Kimhoithem who is the current
Miss Kut for bringing laurels to the College.
