UG suspect killed in encounter

IMPHAL, November 24: Assam Rifles personnel shot dead a UG suspect while another escaped in an alleged encounter at near Thangalawai Pat under Moirang Police Station today early morning at around 2:30.

According to police, the encounter took place when a team of 33 Assam Rifles rushed to the area after getting specific information about the presence of some UG elements in the area, to conduct search operation in the area.

On reaching the area, the AR team were fired upon by suspected UGs from the bushes. In retaliation, the AR team fired for few minutes and after sometime searched the area and found a dead person with multiple bullet marks along with a one 9 mm pistol, police said.

Police further said that one UG managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness.

The slain cadre was wearing a yellow jogging shirt, dark tan colour corduroy pant, black belt, short hair, tattoo on his left hand and left arm, age around 30, pierced ears, police informed.

The dead body has been deposited at RIMS morgue by Moirang police.
