Opp parties monitoring IM-GoI talk

IMPHAL, Nov 1: Opposition parties––CPI, CPI (M), BJP, JD (U), JD (S), TC and MPP, have been closely monitoring the political dialogue between NSCN-IM and Government of India (GoI) which is reportedly in the final stage of negotiation.

Talking to The Sangai Express, CPI national executive member Dr M Nara said that the seven political parties have not adopted any definite decision so far with regard to the ongoing political dialogue and its possible impacts on Manipur.

Before taking any decision, it is crucial to understand exactly all the points of agreement being negotiated between the rebel outfit and GoI.

Though it has been declared that disturbing Mani- pur’s territorial integrity and Naga sovereignty have been put out of the political dialogue’s ambit, nothing has been spelt out about the points of agreement being worked out between the two sides.

Since the Chief Minister had met the Union Home Minister several times regarding a possible political solution to the Naga issue, the Chief Minister should convene an all party meeting and share all that was conveyed to him by the Union Home Minister, Dr Nara demanded.

Given the sensitivity of the issue, all parties should be taken into confidence. The seven political parties have been awaiting an invitation from the Chief Minister for an all party meeting.

The issue cannot be tackled by the Government alone.

The Opposition parties will wait for some more days for an all political party meeting where the issue of Naga political dialogue and its likely repercussions and impacts can be discussed threadbare, said Dr Nara.

To a question about controversial recruitment in the State Assembly and graft charges in the phumdi clearance project, Dr Nara said that they would even go to Court, if necessary.

Even within Congress, there are many Members who oppose fraudulent practices inside the State Assembly. Some of them have already demanded election of a new Speaker.

It is important to correct all the misdeeds and discrepancies done inside the highest institution of democracy. The opposition parties have been undertaking a political movement rather than going to Court as disposal of the cases through Court would take a long time, Dr Nara added.
