Foreign words in Manipuri
IMPHAL, November 24: A one day state wide discourse on ‘Prevention of intrusion of foreign languages in the lingua franca of Manipur, Meiteilon’ was held today at the conference hall of the SCERT, Lamphel.
The discourse was organized by MEELAL and attended by Education Minister M Okendro, MEELAL president Sadokpam Tomba Mangang, CoHSEM Secretary Dr Hamom Nabachandra, BoSEM Chairman P Dhanakumar Singh, HERICOUN leader Mutum Churamani and AMWJU President A Mubi as chief guest, president and guests of honour, respectively.
Education Minister Okendro said Meitei Mayek has been introduced upto class VIII and by 2015, it will be introduced upto HSLC examination.
He added that the state cabinet will be meeting soon after the Chief Minister’s arrival on the issue of replacing the Bengali script by Meitei Mayek as a medium in writing the HSLC examination and added once it is introduced; steps will be taken to introduce the same in the HSSLC examination.
He continued the government is mulling over to change the Meitei Mayek cell into a directorate.
CoSHEM Secretary Dr Hamom Nabachandra said the MIL subject textbooks for upto Class X have been translated into Meitei Mayek and soon will be introduced in the classes.
He said Meitei Mayek will soon be introduced as a medium for the TET (Class XII) exam.
