Update on Skill Development Initiatives

New Delhi, October 23 : Under the Skill Development Initiatives taken during September 2012 by the Ministry of Labour & Employment so far 1413 Modules for employable skills covering 72 sectors have been made operational. Also, 46 Assessing Bodies were empanelled for conducting assessment of which 11 were empanelled provisionally. 2511 Vocational Training Providers (VTPs) have been registered (on Web Portal) and since the inception of this scheme a total of 14.21 lakh persons have been trained/tested. The total number of Vocational Training Providers (VTPs) have been registered so far is 7125.

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Labour & Employment has in pursuance of excellence in vocational training, a new strategic framework for skill development for early school drop outs and existing workers in close consultation with industry, State Government and experts has been developed which has started from May, 2007. The scheme offers multi-entry and multi exit options, flexible delivery schedule and lifelong learning. Central Government is facilitating and promoting training while industry, Private Sector and State Governments are associated with learning the persons through Vocational Training Providers. Scheme is implemented through Skill Development Initiatives Scheme (SDIS) web portal.
