State lad to attempt for Guiness record

IMPHAL, October 14: In an exceptional and unique effort, a young man of 24 years, Maibam Itomba Meitei of Naoremthong Lairembi Leirak is all set to reserve a record in the Guiness Book of World Record by atttempting for the record of most pull ups using only the little fingers.

Maibam Itocha today exhibited his attempt for the inclusion of his physical feat at the Jawaharlal Nehru Dance Academy hall.

Itomba pulled up 21 times in just 60 minutes during today’s feat, which the 24 year old says is way below his normal performance.

During the key note address it was mentioned that the present world record is held by an American with just 14 pull ups in one minute.

The event was organized by the Brilliant Club, Naoremthong, Lakhsh Pioneer Committee and Naoremthong Khulem Leikai.

Speaking to media at the end of his feat, Itomba stated it was unfortunate that his performance today was not upto his expectation.

He had made a few errors during his feat which affected his attempt.

First he injured his little finger a few days back and secondly the bar that he used today was not fitted properly and moved which affected his performance.

He has promised he will give his best performance in the next few weeks.

Seeking support from one and all Itomba said, he had always wanted to do something that noone has done before.

He also shared his disadvantage of not being able to maintain a good food supplement to maintain and build his body as required by his strenuous performance.

He further said he takes a simple diet of a glass of milk, banana and seasonal fruits available in the market.

Itomba Maibam is the youngest amongst six siblings.

His father’s name is Maibam Churmani Meitei while his mother’s name is Maibam ongbi Chandrasakhi Devi.

His aim in life has always been to become a healthy and fit person, he further told IFP.

Meanwhile today’s event was also attended by MP Dr T Meinya, Lamshang MLA W Brajabidhu and  Guinness world record holder M Okendro Singh (Sambal Lei Sekpil) as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

It may be mentioned that Maibam Itomba is a national level weight lifter and he had won the Gold medal in the 50 kg  state level weight lifting championship in 2007 which was held at khuman Lampak and in the nation level he had won a Silver medal at the all India SAI inter weight lifting competition in 2007 which was held at Vishakapatanam (AP).

He had also bagged the 1st position at the 4th sub junior (boys) national weight lifting competition which was organize by the Indian weight lifting federation in the 2007.
