NSCN (IM) denies, trashes ‘written commitment’ report

IMPHAL, Oct 16 : "The NSCN is wondering how and where Mr Pranab Dhal Samanta got the idea that the government of india has secured a written commitment from the NSCN that it will accept the Indian Constitution," said a statement issued here by NSCN-IM's MIP.

Reacting to the news report in the October 15 edition of Indian express under the caption “Breakthrough : NSCN commits to constitution”, the MIP posed "If the Naga people under the leadership of Isak-Muivah would like to accept the Indian Constitution, they would have accepted the Shillong Accord when it was signed. There would not have been political negotiations for such 15 long years."

What Mr Pranab Dhal Samanta said may be a surprise to the Government of India also, because the Government of India and the NSCN are negotiating seriously to arrive at an honourable settlement. Freedom of the press does not mean freedom to meddle with the work of other people, said the MIP.

"Perhaps, in the final analysis, Mr Pranab must be attempting to hijack the peace process to serve his personal interest. But nobody will be thankful to him for this kind of scheme. He should not make fool of himself," it added.(Courtesy: The Sangai Express)
