UNC's 96 hours bandh suspended
Imphal, Aug 20: United Naga Council (UNC) suspended its proposed 96 hours total bandh in Naga areas in Manipur after the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India (GoI) assured for the next round of tripartite talks within this month said UNC press release on Monday.
The Ministry of Home Affairs, GoI conveyed to the Naga Council that the next round of tripartite talk of the GoI, the Government of Manipur (GoM) and the UNC would be held at Delhi on the proposed date between, 29 to 31 August according to the convenience of the UNC, said the communiqué of Ministry of Home Affairs, which was send to UNC this afternoon.
To call off the 96 hours total bandh in Naga areas in Manipur was decided in an emergency meeting of UNC to consider the communication received from Ministry of Home Affairs said the press release of UNC.
The UNC press release further said that the UNC team will participating in the 4th round of tripartite talk at Delhi which is being proposed for the 31st August, 2012.
The UNC also acknowledge the elaborate preparations made by the Tribe Hohos, Frontal, Women and Students Organisation that had been put in place for the proposed bandh towards securing the political aspiration added the UNC press release.
Mention may be made here that the UNC has called 96 hours total bandh in Naga areas in Manipur from the midnight of 20th August to protest against the lack of sincerity and political will on the part of the GoI and GoM to carry forward the democratic process of dialogue on the demand for alternative arrangement outside the Government of Manipur pending settlement of the Indo-Naga issue.
