TPO ‘disturbed’ by irresponsible statement in Manipur Assembly

DIMAPUR,(MExN): The Tenyimi Peoples’ Organization (TPO) is seriously disturbed by the irresponsible statement made by the opposition leader of Manipur Legislative Assembly I. Ibohanbi Singh in the floor of the house in connection with the ongoing SAYO sponsored 96 hours bandh in protest against the Manipur Government inaction in apprehending the accused of June 21 incident. This was stated in press note appended by TPO president Keku Zeliang and P.Sani, Secy Admn.

TPO stated, “It is no doubt that SAYO doesn’t have any control over the Manipur government, but in a Democratic country, everyone has a say through a democratic way when their grievances and demands are not met. The very crux of the ongoing agitation has been understandably compelled due to the inaction of the Manipur Government of the past and present, as June 21 incident is not the first of its kind”.

TPO felt that the immature statement of I. Ibohanbi Singh, who as an opposition leader, instead of playing his role in a right perspective had resorted to vitiating the peaceful coexistence of the different communities living in Manipur through his immature statement in the floor of the house and that too on communal line thereby vitiating the peaceful co-existence and communal harmony. TPO in the note also said that the Tenyimi along with the other tribal communities living in Manipur is shocked at the attitude of the tyranny of the majority/dominant Mietie community led Manipur Legislative Assembly who always think that they can continue to spurn at the minority community in the state and rule forever.

The TPO is thankful to the opposition leaders of Manipur, Ibohanbi Singh for inciting communalism. On the other hand, the TPO wonders as to how a responsible government could grant bail to the two arrested accused knowingly that it is an un-bail able offence under the law of the land. TPO requested the Ibobi Singh led Manipur government to ensure the early arrest of the June 21 incident culprits and award them befitting punishment as per the law of the land, if the government is sincere so as to diffuse the misunderstanding and that peaceful co-existence and communal harmony is restored.
