IMPHAL, July 2: Federation of Madrasahs Manipur (FMM) organized a one day Madrasah Meet on Sunday at Manipur Mall, Mantripukhri relating to perspective and prospective of Madrasah. The meet was attended by Chairman FMM, Moulana Yusuf Ahmed, Secretary Mufti Salatur Rehman, Secretary Madrasah Usmania Thoubal Nurul Islam, Member Islamic Research & Dawah Centre Babupara (IRDC) Moulana Khurshid, Mazharul Uloom Mayang Imphal Mufti Abdul Halim, MLA Kshtrigao Mohd Amin Shah and Dr Sahid Ahmed.
In the keynote , Mufti Salatur Rehman said that the Federation of Madrasah Manipur was established in 2009 with the objective to awaken in studentds of Madrasahs a consciousness and love of Allah and His messenger as the foundation of their intellectual, emotional and spiritual life, thereby providing a sound basis for rational and reflective understanding of the people and worid around them. The earliest venue of education was the Mosque, the place of formal worship in Islam.During the prophet Muhammad’s time, his mosque in
Madina served both as the locus of private and pulic worship and for informal instruction of the believers in the religious lae and related matters. The mosque continued to play these multiple roles throughout the first three centuries of Islam. In the 10th and 11th centuries of the Common Era another important institution developed and proliferated known as the madrasah literally meaning in Arabic “a place of study”.
The official Madrasah was established in various Abbasid cities at the end of the 11th century. With the course of time the Madrasah spread all over the world spreading the teaching of Islam to the world. But the Madrasahs in Middle East countries were weak though the largest number is in Asia including the sub continent of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. In India, the parent body of Madrasah is in Deoband, Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, he said. He further said that in Manipur the Residential Madrasah are 30 in number which are 7 for female and remaining 23 for male. For the primary Madrasah there are 600 Masjids in Manipur. He added that FMM did not take any kind of financial support from the Government yet recently new 30 Madrasahs in Manipur has got support from the
Government in the form of infrastructure like computer systems, desks etc. The upliftment of Madrasahs especially in Manipur is an urgent issue and there is need to find out the old way of Darsi Nizame, the curriculum used in large portion of Islamic religious schools as it’s originality is lost in the course of time he said.
Dr. Sahid Ahmed said that funds are required in any field of institutions. If the teachers are underpaid then the outcome of the Madrasahs will always be below the mark. He added that during the Akbar era the Madrasahs were very popular but then when the Muslim rulers in India falls the popularity of Madrasahs also falls, the downfall of Madrasahs also included the introduction of English language in India, he concluded.
